Don't always act on impulse

How many times have you made that spur of the moment purchase only to be left feeling disappointed, deflated and well, out of pocket?

You remember those bargain shoes, the last 'amazing' jacket on the sale rack... you do don't you ... I bet you also remember the feelings of disappointment and annoyance when they turned out to not fit you, not suit you and left a whacking great hole in your wallet.

If only you had taken more time to consider your purchase.

The same goes for building your website.

It may well be the 'exciting bit' but if you don't take the time think about your needs, what fits your requirements and the kind of site that would suit you and your business- the adrenalin rush will quickly pass.

Your website will be left in a crumpled heap on the virtual shelf, as you realise what you actually need for your business is something more or less sparkly, that would have fitted better into your way of working. If only it had been built slightly differently.

So ... REMEMBER ...

Before you go about ordering the snazziest, craziest website ever because its new, exciting and you want one now! Please think about the following:
  • Consider carefully what kind of image you want to portray through your site (efficient, exclusive, good value, formal, casual etc.)
  • Consider what you want to be able to do through the site ( show images, shop, news etc)
  • Consider how much and what you want to administer the site ( add pages, images, edit and delete pages etc )
  • What are your expectations for the final site?
  • COMMUNICATE all of the above to your web designer before the start of the project
  • Remember YOUR role in developing a website (providing images and copy, testing, answering developer queries)
Follow these pointers and everybody will be happy with your sensible purchase: you, the developer, your customers and of course your bank balance.

Your investment of time and money will reap the rewards of a well planned, considered, attractive and functional website.

Thinking of investing in a website? Why not talk through your needs with GeekyCreative?
